The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates stated that drug and weapon smuggling across the Syrian borders into Jordan poses a danger to national security, and that the Kingdom will continue to confront this threat and anyone behind it.

Dr. Sufian Al-Qudah, the ministry's official spokesperson, stated that Jordan provided the Syrian government, during the meetings of the joint committee formed by both countries, with names of smugglers, the entities behind them, locations of drug manufacturing and storage, and smuggling routes.

These locations fall under the control of the Syrian government. However, no real action has been taken to neutralize this threat, and smuggling attempts have rather increased.

Al-Qudah added that the smuggling of drugs and weapons from Syria to Jordan, which led to the martyrdom and injury of several Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF) personnel, constitutes a direct threat to Jordan's security, and it will continue to confront it decisively until its complete eradication.

He emphasized Jordan's readiness to coordinate with the Syrian government to stop smuggling operations, hold perpetrators and supporters accountable. Syria is expected to take practical, effective, rapid, and impactful measures against them - per the statement.

Al-Qudah confirmed that Jordan, which has hosted over 1.3 million Syrians, providing them with security, safety, and a decent living, and have been embraced by the JAF personnel as they crossed the borders, escaping from war.

Jordan is committed to the security of Syria and the well-being of its people, especially in the neighboring provinces of Sweida and Daraa, with which Jordan shares historic fraternal relations, he said.

He rejected any insinuations that the Jordanian borders were ever a source of threat to Syria's security or a crossing point for terrorists, emphasizing that Jordan has always been and will remain a safety valve, support, and backing for its brotherly Syria and its noble people in Daraa, Sweida, and throughout the country.

ِAl-Qudah affirmed that Jordan continues its efforts to help end the Syrian crisis and reach a political solution that preserves Syria's security, unity, sovereignty, eliminates terrorism, chaos, drug gangs, and fulfills the aspirations of its brotherly people.

Al-Qudah stressed that Jordan is capable of protecting its borders and security from drug and weapon smuggling gangs, and it will defeat them and eliminate the threat through the efforts of the brave Armed Forces and security agencies.
