14 soldiers of the Syrian army were killed, and more than 19 others were injured in an attack carried out by terrorist group “Daesh” on a bus transporting soldiers near Palmyra in the eastern countryside of Homs.

The wounded were transported to Palmyra Hospital for treatment amid significant mobilization by the Syrian army.

The Syrian desert has witnessed a noticeable escalation since the beginning of this year in attacks by Daesh in various areas within the Syrian government’s control.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Jan. 7 the killing of a member of the "Fourth Division" by armed individuals from Daesh near Al-Hassan School in the city of Al-Mayadeen, east of Deir ez-Zor.

On the same day, the Observatory reported an attack by groups affiliated with Daesh targeting sites of the Syrian army in the Al-Kawm area north of the city of Al-Sukhna in the eastern countryside of Homs.
