Germany and its partners in the European Union (EU) are discussing the possibility of establishing a naval coalition to thwart off the Houthi’s attacks against shipping vessels linked with the Israeli Occupation in the Red Sea - according to statements by Germany’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson.

“We as the German government are ready for this. It is important that we as the EU are able to act as quickly as possible in view of the ongoing attacks,” the spokesperson stated, adding that Germany is still considering whether to join the US-led coalition.

The United States Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, announced the formation of a naval coalition earlier in December to protect shipping routes in the Red Sea, However, several allies and Western countries have shown reluctance regarding the operation such as Spain, France, and Italy.

Iran-aligned Houthis have launched several drone and missile attacks, in addition to detaining shipping vessels linked with the Israeli Occupation, which resulted in several shipping companies to suspend voyages through the Red Sea.
