“Double standards in applying international law evident in Gaza war”: Foreign Minister

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi conducted discussions today, Thursday, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Hanke Bruins Slot, on the catastrophic repercussions of the ongoing Israeli Occupation aggression against the Gaza Strip.

They also discussed the efforts being made to achieve a ceasefire and ensure the immediate delivery of sufficient, sustainable, and humanitarian aid to the Strip.

Both parties also expressed their rejection of the displacement of Palestinians inside or outside the occupied Palestinian territories.

Safadi underscored that an immediate cessation of the aggression on Gaza is a top priority, and all international efforts should be intensified to stop the ongoing killing and destruction, and that the unwavering position of the Kingdom is to reject any approach that deals with Gaza separately from the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem, emphasizing a comprehensive plan to end the conflict and achieve a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution.

Safadi also emphasized the importance of adopting the resolution presented by the United Arab Emirates on behalf of the Arab Group at the United Nations Security Council, focusing on the delivery of humanitarian aid. He warned that the failure to adopt the resolution would reflect dangerous double standards in the application of international law.

He also warned of the repercussions of the illegitimate and inhumane actions of the Israeli occupation in the West Bank, including in occupied Jerusalem, where the freedom of worship for Muslims and Christians is restricted, as well as suffering from the terrorism of settlers. He affirmed that the Israeli Occupation’s continued aggression in the West Bank threatens to escalate the situation dangerously.

Safadi and Bruins Slot discussed ways to build on the in-depth talks held by the Arab-Islamic ministerial committee responsible for international action to stop the war on Gaza in Oslo with Nordic countries and the Benelux Union.

They also discussed the danger of drug and weapon smuggling across the Syrian border into Jordan, with Safadi confirming that Jordan will do everything necessary to end this threat and protect its interests, security, and stability.

On her part, Bruins Slot expressed her condolences to the Kingdom for the martyrdom of a border guard soldier a week ago during clashes with smugglers on the Jordanian-Syrian border, confirming the Netherlands' solidarity with Jordan in confronting terrorism and drug and weapon smuggling.

She affirmed her country's support for the two-state solution as a path to resolving the conflict and achieving a just and comprehensive peace. She also expressed her country's support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), noting her country's decision to increase financial support to the agency.

The ministers discussed ways to enhance the strong relationship between the two countries and affirmed their mutual commitment to strengthen it in all areas, particularly in the economic and trade sectors.

Bruins Slot highlighted the importance of Jordan's leading role in the region under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II in efforts to resolve regional crises and enhance security, stability, and peace in the region.
