The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has issued a stark warning, stating that the lives of one million children are "on the brink of the abyss," with healthcare services for children on the verge of collapse throughout the Gaza Strip.

In a statement Saturday, UNICEF emphasized the near-total collapse of medical and healthcare services across Gaza, particularly in the northern areas, posing a threat to the lives of every child in the region.

"Over the past 24 hours, medical care at the Rantisi Children's Hospitals has almost come to a halt, with only a small generator supplying the intensive care units and neonatal intensive care units with power," the statement noted.

The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, also warned Friday that the healthcare system in Gaza is "completely worn out."

According to the WHO, there have been "over 250 attacks" on healthcare institutions in Gaza and the West Bank since Oct. 7.

The UN agency added that half of the 36 hospitals in the Strip are now out of service.
