A 34-year-old man has been admitted to the intensive care unit following a venomous snake bite Thursday night in the Wadi Shuaib area in Salt.

The director of Al-Hussein Governmental Hospital in Salt Rami Abu Rumman said the man was bitten by a Walterinnesia aegyptia, also known as the desert black snake, which led to his entry into a coma and subsequent loss of consciousness due to the highly toxic nature of the venom.

Hospital staff are working tirelessly to administer the necessary medical care and save his life, Abu Rumman stated.

Snake and reptile expert Ibrahim Bani Yassin told Roya that the venom from this particular snake species targets the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, posing a serious threat to the victim's life.

Bani Yassin emphasized that the desert black snake is among the most perilous snake species in Jordan, characterized by its high toxicity and lethality to humans.

Its venom ranks at the top in terms of danger and fatality, surpassing some of the most hazardous snakes in Jordan.
