A total of 2.5 million births have been recorded in Jordan since 2010, according to the Secretary-General of the Higher Population Council Issa Masarwa.

Masarwa told Roya that there is a 'population explosion,' especially among Syrian refugees.

He pointed out that, on this day, the population in Jordan totals 11.4 million people.

He noted that the Kingdom reached one million people back in 1963, according to the national population census.

Masarwa explained that the council uses this information to influence the decision-making process.

He pointed out that a large segment of the population wants to plan pregnancies and implement birth spacing, but couples often use ineffective methods.

Masarwa called for strengthening family planning programs, raising awareness and providing advice to clients of health centers and child vaccination clinics.

He ruled out imposing child limits saying it is 'not permissible,' as it is the right of every couple to have children.
