An earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale hit eastern Papua New Guinea, while another earthquake measuring 6.1 hit the Mentawai Islands in Indonesia at a depth of 40 km.

The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) said an earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale hit eastern Papua New Guinea on Sunday.

The center added that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 80 km.

Later, the US Tsunami Warning System issued a tsunami warning.
