Researcher in virology, Dr. Islam Hussein, said that the monkeypox virus differs from the coronavirus, in terms of the mechanism and speed of its spread.
Hussein added to Roya Friday that it is unlikely that monkeypox disease will turn into a pandemic, indicating that it is not transmitted easily, as is the case with the coronavirus, which cast a shadow over the world.
Hussein pointed out that there are medicines and vaccines against the disease, explaining that it is transmitted directly from one person to another or through certain types of rodents, and its transmission is not limited to monkeys.
In response to the possibility of it being transmitted from one person to another through a handshake, he said that it is not necessarily so, noting that its transmission takes time.
In a previous statement to Roya, Minister of State for Information Affairs, Faisal Al-Shboul, denied the government's intention to impose closures in Jordan after the first monkeypox infection was recorded.
Thursday, Jordan recorded its first case of monkeypox.
