Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday that the Russian military operation in Ukraine has no influence on the deteriorating situation surrounding the world food markets, AFP reported.

Putin also expressed confidence that Western companies, especially European ones, that have walked out over the Russian military operation in Ukraine will return to Russia.

This came during Russia's annual economic showcase, the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Putin also stressed that Russia has "nothing against" Ukraine's possible membership of the European Union.
