Saturday, a hashtag went viral on social media in which students of a university in Jordan shared claims about a professor who has allegedly sexually harrased students for years.

The allegations involved a story that claimed the professor in question will only discuss matters with female students in the privacy of his office as opposed to public places such as inside the classroom.

In a video posted on social media, one student claimed that he had corrected her paper wrongly so she needed to go to his office for the grade to be fixed but other students advised her ‘not to go to his office alone or preferably not to go there altogether, because they had heard stories about harassment.’

Another student claimed that the professor has a trouser hanging on his office door that he asks people to ‘pull down’ if they want more grades and if they yell at him for such a request he would say that he is talking about the trouser that is hanging on the door.

Posts published in the viral hashtag claimed that this has been going on for years but students are too scared to speak up and no actions have been taken against the professor.

The university said that a committee has been formed to verify the matter, headed by one of the university’s vice presidents and a number of deans.
