Tedros Adhanom, the World Health Organization's Director General, hailed the lowest global weekly death toll since March 2020, with "just over 15,000 deaths" reported to the United Nation's health body, according to AFP.

He nonetheless cautioned that the pandemic "caused severe disruptions to routine immunization programs", "opening the door to fresh outbreaks of measles and polio," and also confirmed that the Democratic Republic of the Congo has confirmed an outbreak of Ebola.
