The International Football Association (FIFA) decided to open an investigation into the events that took place in the confrontations between Senegal and Egypt Tuesday, in the second leg of the play-off round of the qualifying rounds for the World Cup Qatar 2022.

Egypt failed to reach the finals of the World Cup after losing to its host Senegal on penalties, 1-3.

The Egyptian Football Association submitted an official complaint against its Senegalese counterpart to the match observer, security official, the Confederation of African Football C and FIFA before the start of the two teams' match in the second leg of the World Cup qualifying round.

The Egyptian Federation justified its complaint by saying, "The Egyptian team was subjected to racism after banners appeared in the stadium stands offensive to the Egyptian players, specifically to Mohamed Salah, the team leader. The Senegalese fans also terrorized the Egyptian players by throwing bottles and stones at them while they were warming up, as well as exposing buses. The Egyptian mission of the attack, which caused its windows to be shattered, and some were injured, which was documented with pictures and videos that were attached to the complaint.

In its first response to the Egyptian Federation's complaint, FIFA pledged to review the match reports, indicating that the relevant disciplinary bodies would evaluate the relevant information contained in the match reports before making a decision on the next steps to be taken.
