Thursday, Jordanians took to social media to express their anger following a more than 10-hour power outage.

They stated that several areas in the capital, Amman, are experiencing power outages, stressing that the electricity company is not responding to their calls.

Citizens questioned the electricity company's preparations to deal with the prevailing weather conditions affecting Jordan since Wednesday.

Earlier Thursday, Jordanians complained of electric power interruptions as well as internet outages in a number of governorates, especially the capital, Amman.

Citizens told Roya that frequent power outages were observed at intervals, noting that internet services were also experiencing interruptions.

The prevailing weather situation damaged an electricity pole, at a time when the Director General of the Jordan Electric Power Company, Eng. Hassan Abdullah, confirmed that field workers faced great difficulties to assist those who sent out complaints to the company.

Abdullah said that the main cause of the malfunctions was trees falling on the poles, which led to the wires being cut.

He pointed out that the company's employees are working in full swing to fix the malfunctions in coordination with the Public Security Directorate, the Armed Forces, the Ministry of Energy and the Energy Regulatory Authority.

Abdullah explained that 20 main sites experienced power outages, including the Al-Benyat area, Wadi Al-Seer, Rajm Al-Shouf, Shmeisani, Abu Al-Sus and Al-Dibbah, and parts of Mahis. He expected the repair operations to be completed by this afternoon.
