Friday, the Austrian Chancellor, Alexander Schallenberg, announced that the country’s government will impose a lockdown that includes all residents starting on Monday, days after the lockdown was limited to non-vaccinators only.
Schallenberg also confirmed, at a press conference in the state of Tyrol, where he met local government officials, that Austria will compel its residents to receive COVID-19 vaccines starting Feb. 1, 2022.
This makes Austria the first country in the European Union to take such measures in light of the high number of coronavirus infections.
