Four people were killed and three others injured in an explosion that occurred at a chemical plant in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region late Friday, local authorities said.

The blast took place at around 11:00pm Friday at a workshop of a chemical plant in the Bayan Obo Industrial Complex in Alxa District. The fire caused by the explosion was extinguished early Saturday.

The company has suspended production.

Authorities launched investigations into the incident.
