- France tightens restrictions -

From midnight Saturday, France imposed new restrictions on unvaccinated travelers coming from the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Cyprus, Greece and the Netherlands. The travelers must present negative PCR tests conducted within 24 hours. Previously, a PCR test conducted within 48 hours was acceptable from travelers from the UK, and within 72 hours from travelers from Spain, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, and the Netherlands.

At a time when cases are rising dramatically under the influence of Delta mutation, France has expanded the list of "red" countries to include Tunisia, Mozambique, Cuba and Indonesia.

- Senegal suspends intercity bus trips -

Senegal's national bus company announced that it will suspend internal flights due to the recent resurgence of COVID-19 infections in the country.

The national public transport operator, Dakar Diem Dik, said in a statement that all buses providing flights between Senegalese cities will stop operating from Sunday, adding that it had received "alarming information" on Saturday evening without giving further details.

- Demonstrations in Thailand -

Thai police used water cannons in Bangkok against protesters who defied health restrictions to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, expressing discontent with his handling of the health crisis caused by the pandemic, and also to mark the first anniversary of the pro-democracy movement.

- More than four million deaths -

The coronavirus has killed 4,086,242 people in the world since the World Health Organization office in China reported the emergence of the disease at the end of December 2019, according to a census conducted by Agence France-Presse based on official sources Sunday at 10:00 GMT.

The United States is the most affected country in terms of raw number of deaths (608,898), followed by Brazil with 541,266 deaths, India with 413,609 deaths, Mexico with 236,240 deaths, and Peru with 195,047 deaths.

The numbers are based on daily reports issued by health authorities in each country and exclude subsequent reviews by statistical agencies that indicate much higher death numbers.

The World Health Organization, taking into account the excess mortality rate directly or indirectly related to Covid-19, considers that the outcome of the epidemic may be two or three times greater than the officially announced outcome.
