Wednesday, Canadian police reported that 233 people died as a result of the unprecedented heat wave currently affecting British Columbia, western Canada.

The provincial police spokesman, Steve Addison, said in a statement that the majority of the victims were elderly people between the ages of 70 and 90.

The head of the county forensic medicine department, Lisa Lapointe, said that every death that was reported will be taken into account, to determine the cause and method of death, noting that many homes in the county do not have air conditioning because temperatures in the summer are usually more moderate.
