Wednesday, merchants and shopkeepers in Ramtha said that the demand for buying Eid supplies is still weak, compared to previous years, attributing this to the inability of citizens to go out during daylight hours, with merchants having to close shops at 6pm due to the government's imposed curfew in light of the pandemic.

Despite the low prices and the merchants' keenness to present purchase offers to citizens, purchases of Eid al-Fitr supplies remained at their lowest levels, due to the limitation of the permitted working hours and the early closing of shops.

Citizens explained that the imposed measures, along with the curfew and the pandemic, has made the joy of Eid "imperfect."

Ramtha markets witnessed a very low turnout of shoppers ahead of Eid Al-Fitr, with shopkeepers indicating that commercial traffic has decreased since the beginning of the Syrian crisis, and worsened with the pandemic.

Notably, Ramtha depends heavily on Syrian goods that are no longer available due to border closures.
