Court of Appeal ruling deems woman accused of indecent speech against His Majesty 'not responsible'

Thursday, a judicial source told Roya that the Court of Appeal, who had previously sentenced Athar Al-Dabbas to prison for indecent speech against His Majesty King Abdullah II, deemed her 'not responsible for the offense'.

The source told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the Court of Appeal reviewed the evidence presented in this case and decided the woman was not responsible for the crime attributed to her because that was not her intention. Based on the evidence, the woman did not mean to offend His Majesty the King.

The woman's case previously sparked controversy on social media after she was sentenced to one year in prison for indecently speaking of His Majesty. She said "my father is better than the King and the whole world," which goes against Article 195/1 of the Penal Code.
