Thursday, the Jordanian Medical Association (JMA) called on the government to establish a platform dedicated for vaccinating doctors, as soon as possible, as they are 'the main pillar' in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.

The acting director of the JMA Mohammad al-Tarawneh said that Jordan is on 'the verge of the peak of the second wave' of the coronavirus pandemic. He pointed out that the highest percentage of COVID-19 cases were recorded in central governorates including Amman, Zarqa and Balqa which is overwhelming hospitals.

He told Roya that hospitals have entered a critical stage, adding that the pandemic curve is increasing by one to 1.5 percent on a daily basis, which he described as 'worrying.'

Tarawneh noted that a total of 40 doctors have died due to COVID-19 in Jordan, since the beginning of the pandemic. He added that only 11 of these deaths were recorded during the first wave of the pandemic. He said the JMA does not keep track of the number of coronavirus infections among doctors because it is a large number.
