Saturday, New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the country’s biggest city, Auckland, will be put into a seven-day lockdown starting Sunday after a coronavirus community case of unknown origin was confirmed.

However, she said COVID-19 measures in the rest of the country will be tightened to Level 2 restrictions, including limits on public gatherings.

In mid-February, a three-day total lockdown was imposed across Auckland after a family of three were diagnosed with the more transmissible UK variant of COVID-19.

Since the start of the pandemic, New Zealand confirmed 2,376 coronavirus cases and 26 deaths.
