COVID-19 situation in West Bank 'does not look good': Health Minister

The Palestinian Minister of Health Mai al-Kaileh Sunday said the COVID-19 situation in the West Bank is 'difficult' and 'does not look good.'

She added that the decision to implement a lockdown was wise.

She explained that there are several components that are taken into consideration to assess the COVID-19 situation including the death rate, percentage of positive test results, occupancy rate of hospital beds, occupancy rate of ventilators, as well as the number of coronavirus patients.

Kailah said that there has been an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases that suffer from severe symptoms, and that most coronavirus patients who died suffered from chronic diseases, cancers, and respiratory issues. A lot of patients are admitted to the hospital in the final stages of illness, she added.
