A change in direction is expected in Kuwait following parliamentary elections Saturday that voted in 24 members affiliated with the the Kuwaiti opposition.
A total of 44 out of the former 50 MPs ran for elections again, but only 19 were re-elected, and all 31 female candidates lost the elections.
The voter turnout of 60 percent was unexpected due to the coronavirus crisis and related restrictions. The Kuwaiti government designated a number of polling stations for citizens infected with COVID-19 to vote.
Citizens complained of long queues and overcrowding, even though strict measures were imposed.
