AMAN mobile application is safe, does not violate privacy and only aims to prevent the spread of coronavirus, said Amal al Saadi, project manager of AMAN app, on Roya’s Donya Ya Donya on Sunday.

Users are not asked to povide any personal information and the application does not store anything other than the places the user goes to — on the phone’s memory not a server.

Approximately 1.1 million people have downloaded the app, which is good but not sufficient, she said.

Based on international standards, the percentage of users should at least reach 40% of the population, which is when the application is considered to work effectively and can contribute to getting the coronavirus pandemic under control, Added Saadi.

The idea for the app was introduced when the government announced the first total lockdown and a group of young people decided to support the Jordanian government in its fight against COVID-19.

The head of AMAN’s social media, Muhammad Fahmawi, said the app notifies all those who came into contact with a person who tested positive for coronavirus and have downloaded the app.

Users are categorised into three different types; high, medium and low, and those classified high or medium should contact 111 and isolate themselves until the relevant authorities take action.
