The second wave of coronavirus has begun in Jordan, said a member of the National Committee for Epidemics, Bassam Hijjawi, on Roya’s Nabd Albalad on Saturday.

The Kingdom's latest COVID-19 cases are either a result of infected people who have travelled from abroad or due to people in Jordan coming into contact with those infected cases, said Hijjawi.

He blamed the rise in the number of local cases on citizens’ lack of commitment to health and safety measures.

Jordanian authorities have activated Defense Order 11 at the border crossings, through which the new cases are coming, as well as the rest of the country.

As for reopening economic and educational institutions, Hijjawi said the government will proceed with caution and all decisions will depend on the COVID-19 situation in Jordan.
