Jordan was able to record the least number of coronavirus cases possible in comparison to other countries, said the spokesperson for the COVID-19 Committee, Nazir Obaidat, during Roya’s Nabd Albalad on Wednesday.

New local cases have raised concerns and the health committee is investigating the increase in local cases — in Irbid, Amman and various other regions.

All cases were traced back to the Jaber Border Crossing with Syria.

The rising number of positive cases among border workers, and their failure to comply with health and safety measures is worrying, he added.

People who came into contact with the positive cases will be tested two further times and it will take two weeks to ensure their safety.

If the number of cases continues to double for three consecutive days, that would indicate the need for further safety measures to be introduced to limit the spread of the virus, said Obeidat.

There are various countries and companies that have reach advanced stages of vaccine production and Jordan is looking into the Russian vaccine and its effectiveness, to obtain it once approved.

The governor of Mafraq, Yasser Al-Adwan, said all the necessary measures were taken regarding the people who came into contact with the positive cases at the Jaber Border Crossing and the area was disinfected.

Investigations are still underway and the concerned authorities continue to isolate those suspected of contracting the virus.
