Details on heat wave set to hit Jordan

A heatwave is expected to hit the Kingdom from Saturday.

The hot air mass, arriving from the Arabian Peninsula and Iraq, will cause temperatures to rise by 8 to 10 degrees Celsius above average for this time of year.

The temperature will reach 40 degrees Celsius in many cities and villages, including the capital, Amman.

It will be partly cloudy in some areas of the Kingdom with possible thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening hours.

Saturday 25/07/2020

During the day, temperatures will rise to be 2 to 4 degrees Celsius higher than average during this time of year.

The weather will be extremely hot in the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, Aqaba and desert regions. A northwesterly wind, moderate to slightly active in the afternoon, is forecast. 

In Aqaba, a light to moderate-speed wind will come in from the north and will be active in the afternoon.

At night, temperatures will rise, becoming higher than average during this time of year.

Sunday 26/07/2020

A noticeable rise in temperature is expected during the day, to become 8 to 10 degree Celsius higher than average during this time of year.

Temperatures will reach 40 degrees Celsius in many cities of the Kingdom.

It will be partly cloudy in some areas with moderate speed northeastern to eastern wind.

In the evening, its will become slightly dusty with a moderate northwestern wind. At night, the weather will be relatively hot in different regions and partly cloudy.

Recommendations:

• Avoid direct exposure to sunlight for long periods of time.

• Drink plenty of fluids.

• Do not leave sanitizers, flammable items and pressurized containers inside vehicles.

• Do not leave children in vehicles.

The Kingdom continues to be affected by the regional heat wave for the second day, with a flow of humid wind.

During the day, temperatures will continue to be 8 to 10 degrees Celcius higher than average during this time of year.

It will be partly cloudy in most regions, causing thunderstorms and rain showers in some areas, in the evening.

A moderate northeasterly to eastern wind is expected to hit the Kingdom during the day.

The wind is expected to be strong, carrying dust to most cities.

In Aqaba, light to moderate speed wind will come from the north.

At night, the weather will be relatively hot in different regions.

Recommendations:

• Avoid direct exposure to sunlight for long periods of time.

• Drink plenty of fluids.

• Do not leave sanitizers, flammable items and pressurized containers inside vehicles.

• Do not leave children in vehicles.

• Beware of reduced visibility in the desert areas due to dust.

The Kingdom continues to be affected by the regional heat wave.

During the day, temperatures continue to be 8 to 10 degrees Celsius higher than average during this time of year.

In the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms are expected, especially in the southeastern desert region.

A strong wind will come in from the north east and shift to moderate from the north west.

In Aqaba, a light to moderate speed wind will come in from the north.

• Do not leave children in vehicles.
