The Senate granted approval to a bill amending the Traffic Law for the year 2023 Tuesday, following its receipt from the House of Representatives.

With the majority of Senate members concurring, the law was passed in its entirety, reflecting the version presented by the House. The session proceeded without any interventions from House members.

-Aligning with Technological Advancements-

Wednesday, the House of Representatives unanimously endorsed the comprehensive amendment of the 2023 Traffic Law, as indicated by the Parliamentary Legal Committee.

The draft law modifications were prompted by the need to stay up-to-date with technological advancements in vehicle types, specifications, and equipment.

The aim is to bolster traffic safety and reduce accidents by imposing more stringent penalties for violations that lead to loss of life, both directly and indirectly, and endanger road users. This includes violations concerning lanes designated for public transport, as well as public and private property.

-Strengthening Penalties-

The session featured various parliamentary discussions, with much of the discourse centering around traffic violations related to driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Several Members of Parliament advocated for heightened penalties in cases of driving under the influence of substances.

The parliament approved the second section of Article 12 in the draft law amending the Traffic Law for the year 2023 after a prolonged debate over the article's content. The wording of the article remained unchanged as received from the government.

Additionally, the Council ratified Article 15 of the draft law, which augments penalties involving imprisonment and fines for those who exceed the speed limit by over 50 km/h.
