Higher Education Council announces new decisions on university e-learning

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced Saturday that the Higher Education Council took a number of important decisions in its last session held last Thursday under the chairmanship of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Muhammad Abu Qadis.

The Council decided to stop the development of outdated majors in Jordanian universities. The Council also decided to gradually reduce the amount of students admitted into these majors, but will work on developing new and modern future specialties.

The Higher Education Council decided to approve the adoption and unification of the organizational foundations for e-learning "roles and responsibilities" and to circulate them to all public and private Jordanian universities, which define the role and responsibility of faculty members, students and universities.

With regard to faculty members, the foundations included the necessity for each faculty member to prepare a complete course plan before starting teaching, and to submit it to students on the course website on the educational platform approved in the institution, and to hand over a copy of it to the department and college administration, provided that the plan is clear and detailed so that it includes the course description, the educational platform used, the expected learning outcomes, the teaching methods used in the course, and the semester material in order for the student to be clear on what is expected of him or her. The plan must also include the evaluation components of quarterly and final exams, reports, tasks, assignments, projects and the weights assigned to each of them from the total score used, the dates and the mechanism for submitting them, and the dates of the exams.

Students are to adhere to the instructions of attendance and absence approved in his/her institution, and to be keen to attend all classes from the beginning of the semester to the end so that he/she does not miss any opportunity for learning. Students should pay full attention and participate during classes, carry out assigned tasks, submit assignments through the appropriate mechanism, and to adhere to the same tasks and academic honesty.
