Minister of Environment, Saleh Al-Kharabsheh said that the production of non-biodegradable plastic bags will be officially banned in Jordan, Jordan News Agency (Petra) reported.

Non-biodegradable plastic bags may cause damage to the livestock sector and the tourism sector. In addition, plastic bags may cause closure to the rainwater drainage systems, Kharabsheh confirmed.

In press statements on Tuesday evening, December 4, 2019, Kharabsheh said that this decision will be implemented based on a new mechanism that can be implemented immediately.

He pointed out that the Ministry will implement this mechanism in coordination with the industry and the commerce sectors, noting that the Ministry will not tolerate any violation of the environment protection law.
