Four Iraqi civilians were killed and four others injured on Thursday in an attack by Islamic State (ISIS) militants in the Iraqi governorate of Saladin, north of Baghdad, Petra news agency reported.

Mohammad Al Bajari, general in the Iraqi army, has reported that the attack had targeted the Shirqat village of Asdira and that security forces had sealed off the scene after transporting the wounded to the hospital for treatment.

According to the general, the ISIS attackers had lured security forces and civilians by carrying out a quick attack then retreating; when the villagers tried to support the forces, several roadside bombs were detonated killing four civilians and injuring four others.

Despite ongoing campaigns by Iraqi security forces to clear areas of ISIS militants, attacks have resulted in clashes. Many remaining militants have resorted to hiding out near rivers or mountainous areas and continue their almost daily attacks against civilians and Iraqi forces.
