An “Israeli” delegation composed of security and intelligence officials led by the Shit Bet visited Cairo today to hold talks with senior Egyptian officials – an “Israeli” source told Axios’ Barak Ravid.

The visit aims to cool down tension between the two parties over the ongoing “Israeli” invasion of the border city of Rafah in south Gaza – an operation that Egypt has repeatedly warned “Israel” from doing.

“The purpose of the talks in Cairo is to cool down tensions with Egypt and warm relations,” the source said.

Yesterday, the Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry condemned the recent comments by the Israeli Occupation Foreign Minister Israel Katz, in which he said that Egypt holds the key for the Rafah Border Crossing and must be persuaded to reopen it.

"Israel should bear responsibility, and allow humanitarian aid to enter the Strip through the crossings that are under its control. The [Israeli] operation at the Rafah crossing and its takeover are the main reason for its closure,” Shoukry said.

He continued, “Israel is trying to blame Egypt for the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, but this is a result of the Israeli attacks on the Palestinians.”

Katz made his comments after holding talks with the British and German Foreign Ministers.

“The world is placing the responsibility of Israel for the humanitarian issue, but the key to preventing a humanitarian crisis is now in the hands of our Egyptian friends,” he said.

“Hamas will not control the Rafah Crossing. This is a security need we won’t compromise on.”
