The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) has called on owners of short-range wireless landline phones subject to the American Federal Communications Commission (FCC) standards to hand them over to the commission to avoid any legal repercussions.
The commission clarified that these devices are not granted the necessary approvals and licences, and they negatively interfere with the communication systems operating in the country.
The commission identified these devices through monitoring vehicles deployed throughout the Kingdom and specified their locations, awaiting their owners to hand them over.
Sources revealed to Roya that these devices may have entered the country through individuals who are not aware of the legal procedures related to the entry of such devices.
The commission emphasised that any individual who introduces such communication devices without official approval are punishable by law with imprisonment for a period not exceeding one month or a fine of no less than 100 dinars and not exceeding 500 dinars.
