Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Tuesday that “it is terrible that Palestinian children were dying in large numbers,” adding that the sight of operations being performed on children without anesthetics “evokes special feelings.”
Speaking in a virtual BRICS summit, Putin stated that “the BRICS states and countries of the region could play a key role in [the Palestinian conflict]”, and also praised that the initiative of South Africa to hold an extraordinary summit of the BRICS group on the situation in Gaza saying it “came at the right time.”
Putin called for the international community to unite efforts to end the Palestinian emphasizing the need to prevent the escalation of the conflict between Palestine and the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF), and blaming once again the failure of US diplomacy in the Middle East for the crisis in the region.
Earlier on Tuesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had stated, in front of the ministerial committee appointed by the extraordinary joint Arab-Islamic summit chaired by Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, that the current priority is to achieve a ceasefire and deliver aid to the Gaza Strip.
Lavrov emphasized that the “Quartet on the Middle East” does not include representatives from the Arab world, which is the reason for its failure in performing its tasks, and stressed the necessity of representing the region's countries in mechanisms for resolving the Palestinian conflict.
