Jordan's Council of Ministers approved a plan to restructure water and sanitation tariffs for the domestic sector from 2023 to 2029.
The move aims to align with the National Water Strategy 2023-2040, improve water supply and services, ensure the financial sustainability of the sector, and address the current debt of around JD 2.3 billion.
The plan includes a shift to monthly billing for all sectors and a gradual annual increase in tariff values, averaging 4.6 percent, from 2023 to 2028. These changes will start being implemented in December 2023.
The government will continue to support water and sanitation costs for low-income individuals until after 2028.
