While at a university conference in Lisbon, US First Lady Jill Biden pays tribute to "the diplomatic power of art" over the last sixty years.

During her remarks, she said: "Diplomacy isn't only about a government-to-government relationship. It's people-to-people as my husband always says. Heart-to-heart. And when visitors understand that so much can grow from our common ground."

"Yes, art can unite us. Connection is what diplomacy is all about as well. For sixty years, the state department has recognized the diplomatic power of art, distributing work to embassies throughout the world. And deployed over two hundred US artists as culture envoys to the local communities."
