Monday, the Public Prosecutor of the Grand Criminal Court charged a man with premeditated murder after he killed his wife in front of their children in Amman.
According to the police report, the husband (58) used a meat cleaver to stab his wife (46) more than 20 times in the neck, chest and shoulder area, leading to her death, as confirmed by the National Center for Forensic Medicine.
He stabbed her after she refused to go back to living with him after she moved out with her four children and rented another home, the report said.
The crime happened Sunday in the presence of their two kids, aged 8 and 11, in Um Uthaina in Amman.
The Public Prosecutor decided to detain the husband for a period of 15 days, subject to renewal, pending investigations, according to a source close to the investigation.
The deceased was previously subjected to violence and beating by her husband, which on one occasion resulted in a broken nose, but she never filed an official complaint against him.
Investigations are ongoing.
