Monday, the Public Security Directorate (PSD) began implementing a traffic campaign focussed on seat belts.

The campaign is based on Article 38 of the Jordanian Traffic Law No. 49 of 2008 (item 36.22) which stipulates that people who drive without a seatbelt will be fined JOD 15.

Those who have children under the age of 10 sitting in the passenger seat, will also face legal consequences and fines, the law reads.

The PSD noted that the campaign includes all types of vehicles, stressing the importance of adhering to traffic laws and priorities, which applies to PSD employees and traffic offices as well.

According to studies, it was found that the use of seat belts 'reduces serious injuries by 50-60 percent,' the PSD explained.
