Syrian President Bashar al-Assad arrived Thursday evening in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to participate in the upcoming Arab League summit in Jeddah, according to Syrian media outlets.

Al-Assad will attend the Arab League summit on Friday.

The Sirte summit in Libya in 2010 was the last summit that Assad attended before the conflict broke out in 2011, and then the suspension of his country's membership in the Arab League in the same year.

After a twelve-year freeze on Syria's membership, the Arab League recently decided to reinstate the country's position, which was initially granted to a broad opposition coalition before the 2011 Doha summit.
