Ukraine's defense ministry Tuesday offered "heartfelt condolences" after AFP video journalist Arman Soldin was killed near the eastern city of Bakhmut.

"Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and coworkers," it said on Twitter, adding: "He dedicated his life to informing the world about the truth."

French President Emmanuel Macron Tuesday hailed the journalist's "bravery."

"With bravery, from the first hours of the conflict he was at the front to establish the facts. To inform us," Macron wrote on Twitter, saying he shared "the pain of his relatives and all his colleagues".
