Monday, the Mafraq Agriculture Directorate responded to complaints submitted by farmers about the presence of desert locusts in the governorate.

The Director of Mafraq Agriculture Ibtihal Al-Khraisha said the relevant local authorities investigated the issue and only found grasshoppers in small numbers, which will "not have any economic repercussions on crops."

She added that wheat and barley fields were inspected within the areas of jurisdiction, confirming that they are "free of locusts."
