One person was killed and three others were injured in a fire that broke out in two caravans inside the Zaatari camp, according to the media spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate.

The spokesperson said that the firefighting teams worked to extinguish the fire and control it, while the ambulance teams evacuated the dead and transferred the injured to Al-Aoun Hospital.

An investigation was opened to find out the cause of the fire.

Za’atari camp, which was established July 28, 2012, is located 10 km east of Mafraq.

The camp has around 25,000 caravans that host over 80,000 refugees. At its peak, it housed around 150,000 Syrian refugees, becoming the fourth-largest city in Jordan.

However, only 18 percent of refugees in Jordan live inside camps, according to UNHCR.
