Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu arrived on Saturday at Cairo International Airport, according to Egyptian media outlets.
Cavusoglu's visit is the first of its kind to Egypt in more than a decade. His visit came following an invitation from his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, for joint talks between the two countries.
Egyptian foreign ministry said Cavusoglu’s visit will pave the way for the resumption of normal relations between the two countries.
"The visit will launch an in-depth dialogue on different aspects of bilateral relations and regional and international issues of common concern with the aim of reaching a mutual understanding that serves the interests of the two countries and peoples," Ahmed Abu Zeid, the ministry’s spokesperson said.
Extensive talks will be held in the presence of the delegations of the two countries, after which the two ministers will participate in a joint press conference.
