Tuesday, tourists were evacuated from the archaeological site of Petra due to heavy rain.

The director of the Petra Gate Visitor Center Yassin Al-Saidat told Amen FM that tourists were evacuated in an organized manner, with the help of the concerned authorities, due to unforeseen weather conditions. 

He stressed that the decision to evacuate the area came to ensure the safety of visitors and tourists.

A number of tour guides criticized the slow evacuation of more than 1,500 tourists from the site to the assembly point at the Abu Aliqah Gate, approximately 2,200 meters away from the treasury.

- Delaying opening hours Wednesday -

The authority announced that the archaeological site in Petra Wednesday will open later than usual at 8 am, due to thee current weather conditions affecting Jordan.

According to Arabia Weather, satellite images indicate that thunderstorms and cloudy skies are expected in various regions in the south, including Aqaba.

Heavy rain is expected in several areas accompanied by hail at times.
