A woman was beaten to death by her husband in the Juwaida area in Amman.

The woman, who was in her thirties, was beaten to death by her husband, who is in his fifties, during an argument, according to a source close to the investigation.

The Public Prosecutor of Major Crimes decided to detain the man for intentional murder for a period of 15 days, subject to renewal, pending investigations.  

The source said that the victim is the man's second wife and that he tried to wake her up but she was unresponsive after he beat her.

He thought she had only lost consciousness and called the relevant authorities for help, but she had already died.

The man turned himself in at a police station and will be referred to the Public Prosecutor of Major Crimes.

The body was transferred to the National Center for Forensic Medicine.

According to a medical source, the body showed "traumatic injuries and bruises," as well as razor cuts.

The source added that bruises and cuts covered 40 percent of her body and that she was beaten over a 48-hour period.

Investigations are ongoing.
