The Center for Israeli Occupation and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) issued a complaint regarding a sign that read: “anti apartheid is not antisemitism” just outside of a Jewish-owned business in Toronto, Canada.

CIJA wrote that they are “deeply concerned” by the sign that appears to be a “city information pillar.”

“We have shared our concern with city officials who are working to address it,” they said before later tweeting that they have been informed that “the posters have been removed.”

They also thanked the “swift action” from the Deputy Mayor Jennifer McKelvie, Councillor Dianne Saxe, and the city staff.

Most people disagreed with the CIJA saying that removing the sign would be an antisemitic move as there needs to be a distinction made between the two.

“Only someone that thinks Judaism or Jewishness is inherently pro-apartheid would object to this,” a user wrote, adding: “Removing the sign is antisemitic, not putting it up.”

A user said: “‘Deeply concerned?’ I suggest you get used to it, as it's perfectly true.”

One user sarcastically commented on the matter saying: “yes... please remove these truthful signs asap. We don't need to remind people about the apartheid state.”
