Saturday, Spanish police announced that they seized 4.5 tons of cocaine found on a cargo ship from Latin America, which was intercepted off the Canary Islands earlier this week, as reported by Reuters.

The narcotics, which are estimated to be worth USD 114 million, were aboard the ship as it stopped at a dozen ports in different countries before the police caught it Tuesday.

According to the Spanish police, "International organisations are reinventing themselves to transport drugs from Latin America to Europe, using livestock to make the control and localisation more difficult."

A total of 28 crew members were arrested and dozens of boxes filled with cocaine were unloaded onto the port side in Gran Canaria island.

Notably, the ship has been followed  from Colombia in an joint operation implemented by the Spanish authorities, US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Togo police.
