The singer-songwriter Lisa Marie Presley, the only child of the late Elvis Presley, died on Thursday at the age of 54, US media reported.

She was rushed to a hospital in California following a cardiac arrest.

"It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us," her mother Priscilla Presley confirmed in a statement to PEOPLE magazine.

Earlier Thursday, her mother wrote on Instagram: "Please keep her and our family in your prayers. We feel the prayers from around the world, and ask for privacy during this time."

The mother confirmed her death later on Thursday night.

She was born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1968.

Her father, Elvis Presley, died in 1977. She was nine years old.
