Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Ahmed Al-Hanandeh, revealed to Roya Wednesday that they received no requests from the Public Security Directorate to restore TikTok services back to normal.

Wednesday marked the sixth day the social media platform, TikTok, remained suspended after a decision from the Public Security Directorate to do so following the spread of some videos aimed at spreading false news and acts of violence, according to an announcement made by the Cybercrime Unit.

Its unprecedented suspension caused a wave of complaints on social media with many requesting the app be restored back to normal, however, the Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Ahmed Al-Hanandeh, said that Tiktok will remain suspended until further notice.

The Cybercrime Unit stressed that the cybercrime teams are following up on what is being published and circulated on social media, especially with regard to hate speech, incitement to vandalism, assaults on law enforcement agencies, property and road blocking.

They explained in a statement that the competent authorities will refer anyone who commits such crimes to the judiciary.

Prior to the unit’s announcement, TikTok users had reported that the platform stopped working in Jordan. The hashtag ‘TikTok’ topped the list of trending hashtags on Twitter.
